Learning Objective:
I can…
  • examine a model Personal Narrative about a Incident that Changed Me
  • create a clean second draft
  • Revise through Reader and Self Assessment
  • create a final draft

Opening:
1. Take a look at the Scoring Guide on page 34 and 35.

2. I will Read Aloud a model

  • What score do you give it?

3. What made that model earn the score you assigned it?

Work Period:
4. Create a Second Draft of your Personal Narrative Essay

5. If you have a second Draft, Exchange Essays.

  • Read it through without a pencil/pen in hand
  • Read it again, and do the following:
    • Underline especially visual and vivid descriptions
    • Put a big STAR by one area that could benefit from more details.  What might your partner do in this section??
    • What is the HOOK the author used to get the reader's attention?  If there isn't one, suggest on (AQQS).
    • Do you have a clear sense of the progress and sequence of events?  (Number the events in the incident).  If yes, why?  If not, explain why not.
  • At the bottom of the essay, explain what happened (the incident) and why the writer is changed (reflection).

Closing:
