Opening:
1. Form small groups and discuss the Article of the Week.


Work Period:
2. Continue the Guided Reading of "Bad Boy":

  • Paragraphs 17-23: Aloud - underline two things that show Mrs. Conway has changed her mind about Walter.
    • What made Walter like Mrs. Conway? Discuss
3. Guided Reading of "Mr. Irwin Lasher":
  • Paragraphs 1-8: Aloud - 
    • underline the adjective in paragraph six that Mr. Lasher uses that gives Walter a new view of himself.
    • put a box around the two things Mr. Lasher says he knows about Walter.
    • underline what Walter does to Mr. Lasher in paragraph 8.
  • paragraphs 9-14: silently
    • underline the three things that Mr. Lasher did that helped Walter change his attitude.
    • identify the adverb in paragraph 14 that explains how Walter's grades improved.
4. Preview page 208.  Really think about What Walter did to get into trouble and WHY he did those things.  Then connect what Walter did to adjectives that describe him in each of those situations.

5. Complete #1 and #2 on page 208.  Write your topic sentence at the bottom of page 208.

  • Use your NOTES from the guided reading to complete #1.  You have already written down and marked the text A LOT, so don't go from memory - use the TEXT!



Closing:
6. If you finish early, find someone else who has finished his/her sentence and discuss Walter's changes and the construction of your sentences.
