- What are the key skills and knowledge I need to focus on for this unit?
- Why do we write about literature and film in the present tense?
- How does the way I see myself compare to how others see me?
- Why is expository writing a good way to explain myself?
Please have your Independent Reading on your desk/table so that I can review it throughout the class period.
Opening:1. Review the Embedded Assessment Graphic Organizer we created for this unit - 3/8
- What are we learning? How will you apply this new knowledge at the end of the unit?
2. How have we already began preparing for this assessment?
3. Login to the account where you were working on internal and external forces in the film UP.
Work Period:4. Last time we met, you wrote a paragraph about Carl's internal forces and what changes they cause in his life.
- Review the paragraph with your partner.
- Include a topic sentence that states the main idea?
- Add supporting details and examples from your graphic organizer?
- Add commentary about how the internal forces cause change?
5. Language and Writers Craft: Verb Tenses
- Review and apply
- consistent vs. inconsistent verb tense
- She opened up the window and throws out the trash.
- The trash floats down and scatters among the daisies.
- All her neighbors looked up, their mouths dropped.
- Which are consistent, and which need a minor edit?
6. Review your paragraph again, and revise it so that all verbs are in the present tense.
What did the construction workers think of Carl before he took off in his house? How was that different than he saw himself?
7. Class Notebook Entry: 3/21: Internal and External Reflection (Faces)
Think about yourself as I model two faces about Me.
- Small Face with Details Outside: How others see you (External)
- Large Face with Details Inside: How I see myself (Internal)
8. Write a name(s) that represent who you are to others and who you are to yourself.
What does the term "Reflection" mean? Why is it important when it comes to learning? To being around others?
- What words and phrases are synonymous with "reflection"?
9. Class Notebook: 3/21: Venn on Me (w/ 2 paragraphs)
Again, Reflect on yourself and the details that determine who you are to yourself, as well as who you are to others.
- I will model how to determine the most important details about myself.
Be sure to:
- Include a topic sentence that states the main idea of your paragraph
- Provide supporting details and examples from your Venn Diagram
- Include commentary that explains what the details show about who you are.
Closing:10. Any part of this brainstorming or writing that isn't completed needs to be done tonight.
- If I didn't get to your Independent Reading, then I'll see it tomorrow.
