Learning Objective and Key Questions:
  • Why is expository writing a good way to explain myself?
  • How do I ensure that pronouns agree in my writing?  Why is it important?
  • What is the best way to preview a novel?
  • How can I use a Double-Entry Journal to record my responses to a novel?

Please have your Independent Reading on your desk/table so that I can review it throughout the class period.

Opening:
1.  Yesterday you wrote two expository paragraphs about Internal and External Reflections.
Mark your text:

  • Include a topic sentence that states the main idea of your paragraph (Circle)
  • Provide supporting details and examples from your Venn Diagram
  • Include *commentary that explains what the details show about who you are.  ****

2. Login to SB Digital: Activity 2.3

See the examples in the activity.

3. Complete a revision of your paragraphs, making sure that your pronouns are in agreement.

Work Period:4. Go to 2.4 and create a sticky note.

  • Distribute copies of Walk Two Moons.
  • On the sticky note, write your name and use it to identify your book.
    • Stick it in the front cover where the book card was.

5. With your partner, examine the cover of the novel and respond to the questions in the graphic organizer.

Closing:
6. Read Chapter One.  Only Chapter One!!!
Mark a passage with a sticky note.  On the sticky note, write one of three things:

  • Connection: How do you personally relate to a passage from the novel?
  • Opinion: What do you personally think about something happening in the novel?
  • Question: What questions do you have about what is happening in the novel?
