I can...
  • make self-connections with texts
  • revisit prior work
  • write sentences using parallel structure

Be sure to complete the Article of the Week
Opening:
1. Voluntary vs. Involuntary
  • Did you fill in the graphic organizer with voluntary and involuntary changes you have made?
2. Did you complete the quickwrite on a piece of notebook paper - the side after the SMART goal?

Work Period:
3. Introduce "Looping." See the model on page 198.

4. What is required for looping?

  • SOMETHING to say using sensory details, feelings, thoughts and ideas.
5. Practice looping

  • Label your quickwrite "A"Underline a sentence in your quick write that could be elaborated.
    • Just below you quickwrite (Label it "B", write 2-3 more sentences elaborating upon the underline sentence.
      • Underline a sentence in B.  Then loop again (Label it "C", just below B.)

6. Together, let's read through the information about Parallel Structure on page 199.
  • After reading through and understanding the information, try completing #1 on 199.
7. In one of your loops, find a sentence or two about the same subject.
  • Create ONE sentence, using parallel structure that is based on a few sentences from one of your LOOPS
  • Ask for a sentence strip when you have one! (Use a marker)

Closing:
8. Reflect: In your class notebook, write a reflection.

  • Explain how looping and using parallel structure improve writing?  Consider: How do they make your voice stronger and more mature?
