I can...
  • consider issues and connections in a non-fiction informational text
  • write sentences using parallel structure
  • consider subjective and objective points of view
Please have out the following:

  • your Reader's Notebook (Notes on Reading)
  • Independent Reading Log #19
  • Article of the Week 2.1

Opening:
1. Submit your Independent Reading Log (tuck into your Notes on Reading where you have 2-3 entries for last week.)

2. Form groups of four or five and discuss AoW.2.1

3. Hand out: Article of the Week 2.2 and new Independent Reading Log

Be sure to complete the new Article of the Week by Thursday.

Work Period:
4. Together, let's read through the information about Parallel Structure on page 199.
  • After reading through and understanding the information, try completing #1 on 199.
5. In one of your loops, find a sentence or two about the same subject.
  • Create ONE sentence, using parallel structure that is based on a few sentences from one of your LOOPS
6. Homework:
Sentence Strip: Using a marker, copy your new sentence onto a sentence strip and bring it into class.
Reflection: In your class notebook, write a reflection.
  • Explain how looping and using parallel structure improve writing?  Consider: How do they make your voice stronger and more mature?
7. Page 200: Characterization is produced by a writer or director through:
  • Appearance
  • Actions
  • What a Character Says
  • What Others Say about a Character
8. View the clips and take notes.

Closing:
9. Be sure to complete the homework so we can follow through on parallel structure tomorrow.
