Opening:
Review your DEJ from class yesterday - 

  • What are some BIG IDEAS, or themes, explored in Walk Two Moons?  
    • Do you infer any messages about these themes yet?  What do you think will happen as these plots/conflicts resolve?


1. Last night I asked you to analyze the "Singing Tree" setting in Walk Two Moons Chapter 16.

Get online to SBD 2.7  
A Tree of One's Own: Setting
  • "Outside the hospital I heard a warbling..." to "...The tree did not sing."

2. Consider a setting in your own life.  
  • 4/6: My Setting:
    • Recreate the table on the next page. Fill in the details in the graphic organizer for a setting of your own.
    • Create a sketch of the setting you are thinking of.


Work Period:
3. Under your "Setting" Graphic Organizer - create two visuals that help you explore the following terms:
  • A. Setting
  • B. Commentary
4. Check for Understanding on both terms.

5. How does Salamanca's tree (external) affect her internal feelings?  

6. Writing Prompt: How does the setting you chose affect your internal feelings when you think of it?  Write a paragraph about your setting.

7. Read aloud the details.  

8. Revise the sample paragraph, using compound sentences.

9. Revisit the response you wrote, and revise.
